Santa Margalida

Santa Margalida is a peaceful village located in the north of Mallorca, surrounded by vast agricultural fields. At the heart of the village lies the Plaça Major, a central meeting point where numerous local events and activities take place. A must-see is the Church of Santa Margalida, a Gothic-style building near the square that offers stunning views of the Serra de Tramuntana. Another historical site is the Pou d’Hero, a Roman-era fountain located on the outskirts of the village. Also worth a visit is the Joan Mascaró i Fornés Cultural Centre, housed in the old school building S’Escola Vella.

The natural surroundings of Santa Margalida are perfect for hiking and excursions, offering the chance to explore rural landscapes and panoramic views of northern Mallorca.

The village’s festivities are a vibrant expression of its traditions. On the Sunday before Easter, the Fira de Santa Margalida takes place—a fair known for its local products and crafts. In July, the patron saint festivities in honor of Santa Margalida are celebrated. However, the most important and emblematic celebration is the Festes de la Beata, held at the end of summer and considered one of Mallorca’s most iconic festivals. On the first Sunday of September, the famous procession takes place, regarded as the most traditional in Mallorca and dating back over two centuries. During the event, dimonis (devils) roam the streets while decorated floats depict scenes from the life of Sor Catalina Tomàs. Participants, dressed in traditional peasant attire, bring a deeply emotional and unique character to the celebration.

Santa Margalida is also known for its excellent gastronomy. Local bars and restaurants serve authentic Mallorcan tapas, traditional variats, or a delicious pa amb oli made with high-quality local products—perfect for a mid-morning snack… or anytime. But what truly makes Santa Margalida special is its people—their warmth, kindness, and the authenticity of their customs.
